Staphylococcal Sepsis: Treatment

Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is a virulent pathogen that causes both asymptomatic colonization and infection. S. aureus is the most common cause of skin and soft tissue infections. In hospitals, S. aureus is the most common cause of surgical site infection, and a common cause of bacteraemia. Epidemic strains of Staphylococcus aureus (and especially methicillinā€resistant S. aureus, MRSA) may spread in hospitals via dust and air, staff hands and contaminated medical devices and equipment.

Keywords: staphylococcus aureus; MRSA; bacteraemia
