Bayliss, William Maddock

1860–1924 English physiologist who investigated the physiology and biochemistry of intestinal and pancreatic function, discovering with his brother-in-law Ernest Starling the digestive hormone secretin; he also formulated an effective treatment for wound shock during World War I.
