Cell Staining: Fluorescence imaging of mitochondrial structure and function

Abstract

Staining of mitochondria with fluorescent dyes, antibodies or mitochondria‐targeted naturally fluorescent molecules contributes to the study of mitochondrial structure and function in normal physiological and pathophysiological states. Using these techniques, the mitochondrial permeability transition and redox state can be probed.

Keywords: cell staining; fluorescent labelling; permeability transition; membrane potential; apoptosis; reactive oxygen species
