Arne Tiselius (19021971) was a Swedish biochemist who developed electrophoresis and adsorption methods and applied them to the study of proteins and other substances of biological interest. In 1948 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his research on electrophoresis and adsorption analysis, especially for his discovery of the complex nature of serum proteins. In the following decades several biochemical separation methods were developed at his laboratory at Uppsala University. Tiselius played an active role in Swedish science policy after World War II. He was a member of the Nobel Committee for Chemistry and served as president of the Nobel Foundation.
