1882–1971 American anatomist and biologist whose scientific achievements included, the discovery of Evans blue dye (widely used for estimating mammalian and human blood volume), biological analysis of the oestrus cycle in the rat, the isolation and analysis of the hormones of the anterior pituitary, and the discovery and initial characterization of vitamin E.
