Thomas Young

Abstract

Thomas Young was a remarkable polymath who, as well as working as a physician and contributing widely to the history and practice of medicine, demonstrated that light is a wave, worked out the mechanisms of colour vision and became a leading expert on deciphering hieroglyphic script.
