Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder: Linkage on Chromosomes 5 and 11

Abstract

Two premature claims of linkage on chromosomes 5 and 11 for schizophrenia (SZ) and bipolar affective disorder (BP) were reported in Nature in the late 1980s. Although the findings failed to be replicated, accumulated knowledge from the results of the first generation of molecular genetic studies of SZ and BP sets the basis for a promising second generation of studies.
